“Surgery at Forel’s Field for Movement Disorders and Beyond”
Shiro Horisawa, MD
Biography: Dr. Horisawa is a director of stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Tokyo Women’s Medical University. His surgical techniques include radiofrequency thermal coagulation, deep brain stimulation, gamma knife, focused ultrasound, intrathecal baclofen, spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve neurotomy. He has completed more than 1500 stereotactic brain surgeries and published over 50 international papers as the first or corresponding author. He became the youngest member of the World Society for Sterotactic and Functional Neuroscience board of directors in 2017. He has received numerous international awards and competitive research funds. His current research focuses on clinical studies of deep brain stimulation for the cerebellum and focused ultrasound for the pallidothalamic tract at Forel’s field, as well as the effects of pallidothalamic tract surgery on movement disorders, epilepsy, and psychiatric disorders.
