Lena comes from Barcelona, Spain, and completed her Bachelor of Arts at Wheaton College Massachusetts with a double major in Neuroscience and German Language. As an undergraduate, she worked as a research assistant at Wheaton’s Cognitive Neuroscience Lab and conducted neuroimaging research on the effect of preferential music on cognitive decline and creativity. She also carried out her own independent project on Alzheimer’s disease and conducted behavioral research at Brown University’s Causality and Mind lab. As a research assistant in the Dystonia and Speech Motor Control Lab, Lena conducted the fMRI experiments and was involved in participant recruitment and the analysis of behavioral data from patients with spasmodic dysphonia. She focused on the pathophysiology and potential genetic underpinning of SD, as well as the clinical and neural effects of a novel oral mediation in these patients. She is currently a gradute student at the Harvard Program in Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology, continuing to work in the Simonyan Lab on her dissertation.
